Challenge 192!

This week's challenge over at I am the diva was to use tangle Seton by Cris Letourneau.  This is a very pretty tangle - which I am sure I will use again!

I wanted to use a lot of colors with this one since the time change happened (we set our clocks back one hour) it gets much darker much faster at night!  The gel pens were glittery and metallic which was a lot of fun.

The Rabbit & What If?

This is what happens when I read an Art Journal Challenge at 4:00 am.  I assumed the challenge was to be completely about Beatrix Potter.  And I have not read or seen ANYTHING by her in years.  So, first thing I do is look up some quotes by her.  I found the quote, "I cannot rest, I must draw, however poor the result, and when I have a bad time come over me it is a stronger desire than ever." I found this quote so creepy and dark in the middle of the night, that I knew it had to go with a weird looking rabbit.

In retrospect, I am not so sure the quote is so dark/creepy.  haha!

Her Head is Full of Flowers

Tired tonight - however this was fun to make.  Dina Wakley was right - the Stabilo pencil is amazing.

Always interesting how after creating things like this, I don't have much to say.  I feel like I said all that was needed in this piece...and feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

Weekly Challenge #183 - Fishbones

When I started playing with it - especially on this blue paint - it reminded me of fish bones!  I like to think Fishbones is actually the name of a really great fish that just happens to be see-through. He isn't dead, just transparent!

The Dog Days of Summer

Happy Labor Day! This has truly been a wonderful summer, and here in the South, it is still very hot!  Nothing better than enjoying the sun in a hammock.

I made this picture last night while on the phone with a friend.  All I could think about was how we are all connected in so many ways - whether we like it or not.

Fall is Coming!

 

While making this, all I could think of was Fall in years past.  My parents used to rent a cabin in woods during Fall.  So beautiful. Always smelled wonderful as well - burnt leaves!

Fairy's Landing

Made this with the Gelli Pad, acrylic paint, paint marker, and gel pens.

Turns out gel pens and paint markers work the best on acrylic paint...I found this out after ruining several markers. Oops.

Doe Girl

Currently, I am in the middle of a great workshop with Dina Wakley called "Facing the Facts" http://dinawakley.com/  Her style is awesome and she has a very nice teaching style.  The technique aspects of drawing can be a little dry but she manages to present them in a way that isn't so dry.

This girl was done with stabilo pencil, gel pens and the background is acrylic & gelli pad.

Gelli Arts and Reverse Coloring

 Gelli Arts certainly seem to be the new trend in mix-media art and I can definitely see why!  Before this I had no done any sort of mono printing, but have always loved acrylics.  Acrylics dry fast, mix well, and last a long time.  They are one of my favorite mediums.

The pads from Gelli Arts allow a sort of mono printing while allowing the pad to be used over and over for different results.  

For this creation, I used the Gelli pad on a pain index card, used ink to outline the shapes, and then colored in a bit more with gel pens.  Very fun!
